DETROIT, MI — The fall calendar started thin, but October has filled in, and what is on it is real. An autism services company ran an entry-level hiring event on Michigan Avenue with no experience required, and a career center on Collingwood opened its doors for a morning. October opened with a CVS Health session on Grand River and a career fair on Meyers Road, followed by back-to-back fairs on two WCCCD campuses. Now Detroit at Work's Michigan Avenue career center is lining up single-employer hiring days through November 10, and the Engineering Society of Detroit brings its engineering fair to Novi on October 29. Out on Telegraph Road in Southfield, the same organizer runs a job fair three times between September and Thanksgiving, open to a lot more people than the name suggests; the first was September 30, and two dates are still ahead.

Avid ABA Behavior Technician Hiring Event — Tuesday, September 8

This is the one to move on. Avid ABA is recruiting behavior technicians, and the listing is explicit that no experience is required and training is provided. The work is one-on-one with children and young adults, helping them build daily living and communication skills. Avid ABA's own recent behavior technician postings around Metro Detroit have run roughly $20 to $25 an hour, though pay for these specific openings has not been published. Company postings for the role ask for a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, and a willingness to pick up CPR and First Aid certification. The career center sits on Michigan Avenue out past Springwells, operated by SERCO and SER Metro-Detroit, and it is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. if you want to get registered ahead of time.

Detroit at Work is inviting people in to get connected to job openings, supportive services and training, and the agency asks that you sign up with Detroit at Work while you are there. No employer roster has been published. That makes it a weaker use of an afternoon than a real fair if you already have a resume and a target, but a much better one if you are starting cold, need help with an ID or a certification, or want a career adviser looking at your situation. The center is in the Virginia Park area off the Lodge and is run by Gesher Human Services.

Michigan Military Community Job Fair — Wednesday, September 30

The biggest room on this list, and the one most people will wrongly skip. Despite the name, the organizer, Hired In Michigan, describes it as open to military families, military spouses, active duty service members, veterans, college students, recent graduates and retired workers. Admission is free. Recruiting spans sales and retail, restaurants and hospitality, construction and skilled trades, healthcare and technology, trucking and transportation, office administration, public safety, government and manufacturing, with openings across Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties plus Flint, Ann Arbor, Downriver, Toledo and Windsor. Employers featured on the organizer's site include Stellantis, Inductoheat, R&R Asphalt and Lending Force. Bring around 50 printed resumes and dress professionally — no jeans, no athletic shoes. Register through Hired In Michigan.

CVS Health Hiring Event — Tuesday, October 6

Check-in 8:45 – 9:30 AM | CVS Health Detroit, inside Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, 3111 Grand River Ave.

A structured morning with one employer, not a walk-through fair. The information session started at 9:15 a.m. and ran two hours or more, with applications filled out on site. Detroit at Work's listing named pharmacy technicians, medical assistants and nurse practitioners on the clinical side, store associates and shift supervisors in the stores, plus warehouse roles. Late arrivals could not be admitted.

Detroit at Work Career Fair at Meyers — Thursday, October 8

This event has passed.

Two days after CVS, the setup flipped: an open afternoon on the northwest side with more than 12 employers. Detroit at Work named behavioral technicians, child care assistants and preschool teachers, engineers and mechanics, customer service staff and security guards, project managers, ramp agents and tow truck drivers. That was the widest spread of roles on the October calendar. The full employer roster was not published.

City of Detroit Veteran Job & Resource Fair — Wednesday, October 14

The name said veteran, but the City of Detroit listed this one as free and open to the public, with the invitation addressed to Detroit veterans and residents. It was a single stop for work and support: employers, on-site interviews, community resources and veteran benefits help under one roof, with free accessible parking and ASL interpreters on hand. No employer roster was published. Veterans who missed it can still get recruiters and benefits help at the Southfield fairs below.

WCCCD Eastern Campus Career Fair — Thursday, October 15

The next morning the action moved to the east side, and this one was open to all job seekers, not just WCCCD students. Recruiting was expected across healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, skilled trades, customer service, IT, and transportation and trucking. No employer list was published. Liberty Security Group Hiring Event — Tuesday, October 20

Liberty Security Group was filling security officer jobs at $17 an hour. The listing asked for a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, a clean background, and customer service and de-escalation skills. Security work comes back to Michigan Avenue on November 9.

Hampton Manor of Woodhaven CNA Open Interviews — Monday, October 26

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work West Warren Career Center, 16427 W. Warren Ave.

The one event on the late-fall calendar with a hard credential requirement. Hampton Manor of Woodhaven, an assisted living community, is interviewing certified nursing assistants at $17 an hour. You need a current CNA certification, a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED, and Detroit at Work asks candidates to pre-register through its events calendar. The interviews are on the west side, but the job is Downriver in Woodhaven, so map the commute first.

Same organizer, same room, same hours, four weeks after the September 30 fair. If you missed September or want a second pass at employers you talked to the first time, this is the one to circle. The best-paying listing on the Detroit at Work calendar. Marriott is recruiting housekeepers, cooks and other hospitality roles, with pay starting at $20 an hour. Engineers Get Hired Job Fair — Thursday, October 29

2:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Vibe Credit Union Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave., Novi

The Engineering Society of Detroit expects more than 25 employers recruiting engineering and technology talent for full-time, part-time, internship and co-op roles. This one is not free for everyone: ESD members get in free, and non-members now pay $25 since the early rate ended October 15, with a first-year ESD membership included for new members. The 2026 exhibitor list has not been posted. It is built for engineers, students in the field and career changers, not general job seekers, and it runs into the I-96 evening rush.

A second shot at security work, three weeks after Liberty. Top Shelf Security is hiring for security positions starting at $16 an hour, and asks for a high school diploma or GED and a clean background check. No pre-registration has been posted.

Little Liberia Hiring Event — Tuesday, November 10

Little Liberia, the restaurant on East Warren on the east side, is hiring line cooks, prep cooks and bartenders, with pay starting at $15 an hour. Requirements are a high school diploma or GED and a background check. The restaurant is on the far east side and the event is on the southwest side, so settle the commute question before you accept.

Michigan Military Community Job Fair — Thursday, November 19

12:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Radisson Hotel, 26555 Telegraph Road, Southfield

The last confirmed event of the fall, and the one that matters most if you are chasing seasonal work. November is when warehouses, retailers and delivery operations across Oakland and Macomb finish their holiday crews, and a fair the week before Thanksgiving is where those late slots get filled. Note this one falls on a Thursday rather than the usual Wednesday.

Before you drive out to Telegraph: Hired In Michigan's own site currently lists the fair by month rather than by day, and the three specific dates above come from the City of Detroit's workforce agency calendar. Call the organizer at (248) 237-3600 to confirm the date before you go.

🔎 How to Pick the Right Ones

Sixteen events, three of them the same Southfield fair. Sort yourself quickly:

  • No specialized background, need a paycheck fast: the November 9 security hiring event on Michigan Avenue, or October 28 in Southfield for the widest mix of employers.
  • Hotel and kitchen work: October 29 for Marriott housekeeping and cook roles at $20, November 10 for Little Liberia's kitchen and bar.
  • Certified nursing assistants: October 26 on West Warren. Southfield draws healthcare recruiters too.
  • Starting from scratch, with no current resume, ID or certifications: the September 23 Collingwood event has passed, but Detroit at Work's career centers are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the same kind of help.
  • Want a trade, not just a job: either remaining Southfield date for skilled trades, CDL and manufacturing.
  • Engineers, engineering students and tech professionals: October 29 in Novi, if the non-member fee works for you.
  • Veterans, spouses and transitioning service members: October 28 or November 19 in Southfield. Go early in the window; the first hour gets more recruiter time than the last.
  • College students and recent grads: Southfield too. The organizer names you specifically, and most people reading the words "military community" will assume it is closed to them.
  • Chasing holiday seasonal work: November 19.

✅ What to Bring to Any of Them

  • Printed resumes. Hired In Michigan suggests around 50 for the Southfield fair
  • Photo ID
  • Certification and license numbers if you have them, written down
  • Professional clothes. Southfield's organizer explicitly rules out jeans and athletic shoes
  • Your real availability, stated plainly, including nights and weekends if you can work them
  • A notebook for names, so you can follow up inside 48 hours

🔎 Where to Aim Between Now and November

Seven events still ahead between now and Thanksgiving is a good calendar, not a whole job search, so treat the fairs as one channel and keep applying between them. On pay: Michigan's minimum wage rose to $13.73 an hour on January 1, 2026. It is one number statewide — there is no separate Detroit or Southfield rate layered on top — and the address where you actually perform the work is what sets the floor. In practice almost everything being recruited at these events pays well above it.

The three Southfield fairs list free admission, and the October 14 veteran fair was listed as free and open to the public. Detroit at Work has not published an admission charge for any of its career center events. The exception is the Engineers Get Hired fair in Novi on October 29: free for ESD members, $25 for non-members.

Do I have to be a veteran to attend the Southfield job fairs?

26555 Telegraph Road, north of I-696 and a short hop off the Lodge. From most of Detroit it is a 25 to 35 minute drive depending on where you start.
