Detroit at Work Hiring Events Oct. 20 to Nov. 10: Security, Marriott, CNA and Restaurant Jobs

DETROIT, MI — Detroit at Work has quietly stacked its late-fall calendar with single-employer hiring events, and most of them land at one address: the career center at 9301 Michigan Ave., out past Springwells on the southwest side. Between October 20 and November 10, Detroit job seekers can sit down with a security company, a union bridge contractor, a Downriver assisted living community, Marriott, a second security firm and an east side Liberian restaurant. Most list a starting wage up front, and only one of them asks for a certification you can't get by next week.

Six events at two Detroit at Work career centers between October 20 and November 10: five hiring events and one information session, with posted pay running from $15 to $20 an hour.

📅 Table of Contents

Liberty Security Group Hiring Event — Tuesday, October 20

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work Michigan Ave. Career Center, 9301 Michigan Ave.

Liberty Security Group is filling security officer jobs at $17 an hour. The bar is clear and worth reading before you go: a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, a clean background, and customer service and de-escalation skills. That last part is the real interview. Security work in this city is mostly talking people down, so come with a story about a tense situation you handled calmly, whether it was at a store counter or a front desk. No pre-registration has been posted. Questions go to Detroit at Work at 313-962-9675, ext. 4281.

C.A. Hull Information Session — Thursday, October 22

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Detroit at Work Michigan Ave. Career Center, 9301 Michigan Ave.

Be clear on what this one is: an information session, not a hiring floor. C.A. Hull is a union bridge construction and rehabilitation contractor based in Commerce Township, and it is here to talk about laborer, carpenter, operator, finisher and painter work. No wage has been posted for the session. The reason to go anyway is the door it opens. The company's careers page says its apprenticeship program pays while you train, that no experience is required, and that anyone unsure where they fit should apply for the laborer position. Bridge crews work outdoors and across the state, so ask about travel and seasonal layoffs before you commit.

Hampton Manor of Woodhaven CNA Open Interviews — Monday, October 26

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work West Warren Career Center, 16427 W. Warren Ave.

The only event on this list held away from Michigan Avenue, and the only one with a hard credential requirement. Hampton Manor of Woodhaven, an assisted living community, is interviewing certified nursing assistants at $17 an hour, full-time and part-time, on day, afternoon and night shifts. You need a current CNA certification, a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED. The interviews are on the west side, but the job itself is in Woodhaven, Downriver off I-75, so map the commute before you say yes to a night shift. Detroit at Work asks candidates to pre-register through the link on its events calendar.

Marriott Career Exploring Event — Thursday, October 29

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work Michigan Ave. Career Center, 9301 Michigan Ave.

The best-paying listing on the calendar. Marriott is recruiting housekeepers, cooks and other hospitality roles, with pay starting at $20 an hour. The requirements are a high school diploma or GED and the ability to pass a background check. Detroit at Work has posted a registration link for this one on its calendar, so sign up ahead rather than walking in cold. The listing does not say which Marriott-brand properties are hiring, so ask at the table which hotels have openings and what the shifts look like before the holiday travel rush.

Top Shelf Security Hiring Event — Monday, November 9

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work Michigan Ave. Career Center, 9301 Michigan Ave.

A second shot at security work, three weeks after Liberty. Top Shelf Security is hiring for security positions starting at $16 an hour, and asks for a high school diploma or GED and a clean background check. If you went to the October 20 event and did not get an offer, this is your rebound. If you got offers from both, compare the posts and the hours, not just the dollar. No pre-registration has been posted.

Little Liberia Hiring Event — Tuesday, November 10

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Detroit at Work Michigan Ave. Career Center, 9301 Michigan Ave.

Little Liberia, the Liberian and Afro-fusion restaurant on East Warren in East English Village, is hiring line cooks, prep cooks and bartenders, with pay starting at $15 an hour. Requirements are a high school diploma or GED and a background check. This is a small, chef-owned kitchen rather than a chain, which usually means a faster yes or no and a cook who can learn a lot of stations quickly. The restaurant is on the far east side and the event is on the southwest side, so plan the commute question before you accept. Bartenders should ask how tips are handled.

🔎 How to Pick the Right Ones

  • No special background, need a paycheck fast: October 20 and November 9, the two security events, and October 29 for Marriott housekeeping.
  • Kitchen experience: October 29 for Marriott cook roles at $20, November 10 for a smaller restaurant kitchen.
  • Certified nursing assistants: October 26 is the only event for you, and the only one where a certification is required.
  • Want a trade, not just a job: October 22. It is a conversation, not an offer, but it is how you get into a paid apprenticeship.
  • Veterans, spouses, students and recent grads: add the Southfield job fair on October 28 to your week. Different event, different city, different employers, and far more of them.

✅ What to Bring to Any of Them

  • Several printed resumes, even for a single-employer event
  • A photo ID and your driver's license
  • Your diploma or GED details, and your CNA certification number if you have one
  • Your honest availability, including nights and weekends
  • A plan for getting to the job site, not just to the career center

🔎 Where to Aim Between Events

Single-employer events move fast, but they only cover six companies. Keep applying between them, especially in security, hospitality and long-term care, where Detroit employers hire year-round and the holidays push demand higher.
