Southfield Job Fair Oct. 28 and Nov. 19: Free, and Open to Far More Than Veterans
SOUTHFIELD, MI — The most misread job fair on the Metro Detroit calendar this fall carries a name that scares off most of the people it is built for. The Michigan Military Community Job Fair returns to the Radisson on Telegraph Road in Southfield on Wednesday, October 28, then once more on Thursday, November 19. Admission is free, and you do not need a DD-214 to walk in.
Two free afternoons in Southfield, noon to 5 p.m. each time, open to veterans and military families but also to college students, recent graduates and retirees.

🔥 Who Can Actually Go
Read past the name. The organizer, Southfield-based Hired In Michigan, lists its audience as military families, military spouses, active duty service members, veterans, college students, recent graduates and retired workers. That covers a Lawrence Tech senior, a recent Wayne State grad, a spouse who just landed at Selfridge, and a retiree who wants twenty hours a week. The organizer welcomes job seekers from every industry, so a retail or warehouse resume belongs in the room too.
Not in any of those groups? Call Hired In Michigan at (248) 237-3600 before you make the drive.
💼 Who's Been Recruiting
Employers featured on the organizer's own site include Stellantis, Inductoheat, R&R Asphalt and Lending Force: an automaker, an industrial equipment maker, a paving contractor and a lender. Treat that as a guide, not a guest list. No employer roster has been published for October 28 or November 19 yet. The organizer's site links an employer list, so check it the week of each fair.
The November date matters if you want seasonal work. The week before Thanksgiving is late in the holiday hiring season, when retailers and warehouses are filling the last open shifts.

- Confirm the date. Hired In Michigan's own site lists the fair by month. The specific October 28 and November 19 dates come from the Detroit at Work events calendar, run by the City of Detroit's workforce agency. Call (248) 237-3600 or email info@hiredinmichigan.org to confirm before you go.
- Dress the part. The organizer asks for professional dress: no jeans, no athletic shoes.
- Bring a stack. The organizer suggests about 50 printed resumes. That is not a typo. Plan on handing one to every table you stop at.
- November 19 is a Thursday, not a Wednesday like the October date.
Different event, different day: veterans who want benefits help along with recruiters should look first at the City of Detroit's free Veteran Job & Resource Fair on October 14 at WCCCD's downtown campus.
📋 How to Show Up Ready
Hired In Michigan also runs free resume writing workshops in Southfield; bring a laptop or tablet. If your resume still leads with a job from 2019, that is worth an evening before October 28. And go early: recruiters have the most time in the first hour after doors open at noon.
